GoFundMe campaign set up for Chatham family following house fire

A Strathroy woman has set up a GoFundMe campaign to help her parents, who lost their home in a fire last week.

The fire on Beth Crescent broke out around 4 p.m on Thursday, August 5 and caused about $200,000 in damages. Neither resident of the home was hurt in the fire, but their daughter, Jill Harris says her parents lost everything.

Harris set up the campaign on Monday.

According to Chatham-Kent Fire, the cause of the blaze is being listed as accidental.

"The water and smoke damage alone were devastating," Harris said.

Harris says her parents have been volunteers in the community for more than 20 years.

"They give so much to the community that I thought we could come together as a community and help them," she said.
