Two active outbreaks at schools in Chatham, Tilbury

News cases of COVID-19 have been identified at elementary schools in Tilbury and Chatham.

On Monday, Chatham-Kent Public Health declared a COVID-19 outbreak at Tilbury Area Public School and another at Chatham Christian Elementary School.

Public Health officials said new cases were confirmed in the same cohorts as the previous cases at both schools.  There are three active cases at Tilbury Area Public School and two at Chatham Christian Elementary School. Both schools remain open.

The health unit is working closely with the school and is contacting anyone who may have been in potential contact with the virus.

"If your child presents one or more symptoms of COVID-19, they cannot attend school until they receive a negative COVID-19 test result and are cleared by public health," the statement read.

A third outbreak remains active at Chatham Christian High School with three cases.
