Woman charged with theft 

A woman will have to answer to a handful of charges after allegedly stealing from a Chatham business.

On Monday afternoon, officers responded to a shoplifting complaint at the Shoppers Drug Mart on Queen Street.

Through investigation, police learned that the woman allegedly entered the store and concealed perfume in her bag before fleeing the store without paying.

Officers located the woman a short distance away and she was taken into custody. Upon being searched, the woman was found in possession of three perfume sets, with a total value of $180.

The 37-year-old woman, of no fixed address, was arrested and charged with theft under $5,000, being in possession of property obtained by a crime under $5,000 and failing to comply with her probation order. She has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Break and enter in Chatham

Chatham-Kent police are looking for whoever made off with thousands of dollars worth of tools in Chatham.

According to police, unknown suspects forced their way into a building under construction on King Street sometime between Friday afternoon and Monday morning.

Around$2,500 worth of various tools were stolen.

Anyone with information is asked to call police or Crime Stoppers.

Traffic stop leads to charges 

A 37-year-old Thamesville will have to answer to a trio of changes after a traffic stop in Chatham.

Officers pulled the man over around 6 p.m. Monday on Mary Street.

The man was charged with driving while under suspension, using plates not authorized for the vehicle and failing to surrender an insurance card.

His vehicle was also towed from the scene.
