Man Charged with Assaulting a Police Officer

Chatham-Kent police have charged a 34-year-old man from Ridgetown with assaulting a police officer with a weapon and two counts of mischief.

Police allege the suspect threw an item at the officer when police responded to a smashed rear windshield at a house in Ridgetown Thursday afternoon.

The suspect tried to flee and smashed another vehicle’s window with a large ladder and proceeded to kick the side of a truck, according to police.

Stolen vehicles

A 40-year-old Tilbury man has been charged with theft and trafficking stolen property after several items, including an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) were stolen in Tilbury.

Police said someone forced their way into a storage container on Talbot Trail in Tilbury in the early morning hours on Thursday and took several items.

Investigators identified a person responsible and learned several items had been sold throughout the area.

Police said approximately $9,000 worth of equipment was recovered and returned to the rightful owner.

A 2011 Honda Foreman 680cc ATV is still missing.

Police are also trying to find a grey 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer that was stolen in Wallaceburg.

Investigators said the vehicle, worth around $2,000, was stolen from a parking lot on Wallace Street sometime Wednesday evening.

Stolen Burnt Out Vehicle Recovered

A pickup truck that was stolen in Wallaceburg has been recovered in the St. Thomas area, but it was scorched.

Police said a white 2004 GMC 2500 ¾ ton Sierra was stolen sometime overnight between Wednesday and Thursday.

Elgin County OPP found the vehicle in the St. Thomas area and the owner has been notified.

Traffic Stop Leads to Charges

A wanted man has been arrested by Chatham-Kent police during a traffic stop.

The man was taken into custody on Thursday at approximately 6:45 p.m.

Officers discovered the 29-year-old Chatham man was wanted on an outstanding warrant for three counts of assault with a weapon and two counts of uttering threats.
