Local COVID outbreaks higher

The number of active COVID-19 outbreaks in Sarnia-Lambton has gone up.

In its daily update, Lambton Public Health reported two new institutional outbreaks, at Afton Park Place in Sarnia and a congregate living setting with Lambton County Developmental Services, for a total of 16. There are also three outbreaks at unnamed workplaces.

The health unit reported 73 new lab confirmed cases of the virus Monday, and 117 resolved cases, lowering the number of known active cases to 563.

Since March 2020, there have been 8,452 confirmed infections, 7,787 recoveries and 102 local related deaths. The latest fatality was reported on Sunday, an individual in their 60s died at London Health Sciences Centre.

Bluewater Health reported on Monday afternoon that a COVID outbreak in the hospital's Surgical B unit in Sarnia had ended.

There are 55 COVID-positive patients at Bluewater Health, up three from Sunday. The hospital's website said eight of the patients are in intensive care.
