App helps emergency crews find CK snowmobiler after serious crash

Chatham-Kent police are crediting a location tracking app with helping them to find a snowmobile driver who suffered life-threatening injuries after a crash in Chatham.

Police said emergency crews were called to the scene in the area of Given Road and Gregory Drive in Chatham at around 2 a.m., adding that they were able to pinpoint the exact location of the collision with the help of the What 3 Words app.

Officers said their investigation showed that three snowmobilers were traveling through a field when one of them hit a snow-covered ditch.

A 36-year-old Chatham Township man was taken to the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance with life-threatening injuries and later transferred to a Windsor hospital for further medical treatment.

The Traffic Unit has taken over the investigation and anyone with information is asked to contact Constable Josh Flikweert at joshuaf@chatham-kent.ca or 519-355-1092.
