Summer sizzle returns to CK events

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent is accepting applications for summer events while some of the big ones are already starting to take shape.

Mayor Darrin Canniff said events like WAMBO and Retrofest will go ahead this summer if they are permitted under COVID-19 protocols.

"Those are events that are planned and assuming that they can go ahead, they will be. I know the municipality will be working significantly with all of the organizers to make sure it's well taken care of from the municipal side of things," said Canniff.

Ribfest in Chatham and Poutine Feast in Blenheim have already announced dates for their events. Ribfest will be held at Tecumseh Park in Chatham July 7-10, 2022. Poutine Feast was to be held at Tecumseh Park May 26-29, 2022 but has to be rescheduled because Retrofest is that weekend.

Chief Administrative Officer Don Shropshire said the municipality will continue to respect provincial pandemic guidelines and will follow the changes in restrictions when they happen.

He also said local facilities will be made available to hold safe events when they're permitted.
