Area schools drop COVID-19 immunization policy for sporting events

Policy changes in regards to COVID-19 have come into effect at schools in Lambton-Kent after the province eased restrictions on Tuesday.

All remaining capacity limits for indoor public settings in Ontario were dropped on March 1, along with proof of vaccination requirements.

As such, the Lambton Kent District School Board (LKDSB) and St. Clair Catholic District School Board (SCCDSB) have rescinded their vaccination policy for indoor sports, which was implemented in October 2021.

"This means, effective immediately proof of COVID-19 immunization is no longer required for athletes, coaches, referees or spectators at indoor sporting events," read a letter from SCCDSB Director of Education Scott Johnson.

The LKDSB said public health directions, such as the mask mandate, will continue to be observed.

Rapid Antigen Tests will still be made available at all publicly-funded schools. The SCCDSB said high school students can pick up tests from the office while elementary school families can contact the school to have a test kit sent home with the student.
