If you know a senior in Chatham-Kent who is making a positive impact on the community, you now have the chance to give them some recognition.
Nominations are now open for the 35th annual Senior Achievement Awards.
The awards go to residents aged 60 and older that have achieved significant goals and made outstanding contributions as volunteers within Chatham-Kent.
According to Mayor Darrin Canniff, more than 1,000 seniors have been honoured over three decades.
"Volunteerism is the glue that holds our community together,” said Canniff. “People giving their time and effort for the good of others is one of the most noble and unselfish acts an individual can do. I’m glad to say we have many such people in Chatham-Kent, and we should celebrate them.”
Nomination forms will be available at all Chatham-Kent Municipal Centres, all Chatham-Kent public libraries, all 11 Seniors’ Centres within the municipality and online at both the Chatham-Kent Senior Awards and Age Friendly Chatham-Kent Facebook pages.
The deadline for receipt of nomination forms is Tuesday, April 5. According to the municipality, the Chatham-Kent Senior of the Year is selected by an impartial committee.
The 2022 Senior of the Year will be announced during the broadcast of the Chatham-Kent Celebration of Older Adults on June 1 on Facebook and YourTV. All nominees will be recognized during this virtual event.
