The Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority (LTVCA) has issued a flood watch to last until Monday.
"There is a risk of flooding and shoreline damage along Erie Shore Drive in Chatham-Kent beginning overnight, but more likely during the day on Sunday," the LTVCA said in a statement.
"The wind speeds and directions in the forecasts have caused significant flooding in the area over the last few years and water levels are currently fairly close to where they were at this time last year," the statement read.
It's predicted that winds around 65 km/hr could be seen over the open lake, with gusts of up to 100 km/hr, which could result in one metre high waves during the day on Sunday.
The conservation authority said that ice on the lake and along the shore makes predicting floods difficult, but residents should monitor conditions and be prepared.
"There could be shoreline damage due to the remaining ice attached to shoreline protection works and ice on the lake being pushed to the shore," the LTVCA said.
There's also a possibility of shoreline damage and erosion due to wave action.
People, especially children, are warned to stay away from the shoreline as the ice and waves can cause particularly hazardous situations.
