Masks are not always optional in CK come Monday

With masking changes coming on Monday, the Municipality of Chatham-Kent is reminding the public that mandatory masking is still required in some municipal facilities.

Mandatory masking is still in place at long-term care homes, hospitals, and health care facilities such as Riverview Gardens long-term are home in Chatham.

Masks are also required on public transit such as Ride CK vehicles and clients visiting Chatham-Kent Public Health services will still need to wear masks inside all clinic facilities.

Municipal officials also said the use of masks is not required but is strongly encouraged when visiting all Chatham-Kent Library locations including when attending library programs. They said signage will be posted at all library branches and masks will be available for patrons who request them.

Masks will not be required at cultural venues, but there will be signs encouraging patrons to wear their masks if they wish. The municipality also said there may be a limited number of masks available for patrons and those who wish to wear masks are encouraged to bring their own.

Visitors to municipal services centres for counter service, including Service Ontario, will no longer require masks, according to the municipality.

Masks will also not be required at arenas or halls, although municipal officials said individuals can choose to wear a mask if they want. They noted staff will continue to wear a mask until further notice.

Pool patrons will not be required to wear masks and will only be required to passively screen upon entrance to the pools. Signs will be posted requesting that patrons not enter if experiencing symptoms and staff will continue to wear masks and follow all COVID-19 precautions as per corporate policy.

Anyone with questions regarding masking and use of municipal facilities is urged to call 3-1-1.
