Johnston takes OHL Player of the Month for the third time

For the third time this season, a Windsor Spitfires forward has been named the Ontario Hockey League's (OHL) best player.

Wyatt Johnston collected the award for March, scoring 13 goals for 30 points in 15 games. Johnston's plus-minus rating was 11, and he scored multiple points in 11 of those 15 games. He scored four game-winning goals as the Spits cruised to a 12-2-1-0 record for the month.

Among those multi-goal games was his first hat trick on March 19 in Flint, against the Firebirds.

Johnston was also the OHL Player of the Month for December 2021 and January 2022.

The 18-year-old native of Toronto is a prospect in the Dallas Stars' NHL system. He currently leads the OHL with 115 points in 61 games. He has also won a World Under-18 Hockey Championship gold medal with Team Canada.

Windsor is currently on an eight-game winning streak and sits in first place in the OHL Western Conference with 84 points, five ahead of rival London. They have won nine of their last ten games, and are in Kitchener Friday night.

Other OHL winners for March were defenceman Pavel Mintyukov of the Saginaw Spirit, goaltender Marco Costantini of the Hamilton Bulldogs, and rookie Cedric Guindon of the Owen Sound Attack.
