Outgoing Chatham-Kent CAO Don Shropshire signs off

Departing Chatham-Kent CAO Don Shropshire received a fond farewell at Monday night's council meeting.

Shropshire, who has been in the position with the municipality since 2012, thanked council for placing their trust and confidence in him over the years.

"It's been a privilege to serve this community," he said. "I'd be remiss if I didn't extend my thanks to the municipal team."

Looking back on the last 10 years as CAO, Shropshire said the accomplishments that have been made were the result of the team.

"We have an incredibly large geography that has a lot of challenges," he said. "People have done a phenomenal job to step up and do that in a way that makes our community better and better."

Calling Shropshire a fantastic ambassador, Mayor Darrin Canniff said he's been an asset to the municipality and community.

"When you look at all the challenges that he’s went through over the last several years - Erie Shore Drive, Wheatley, this thing called COVID - a number of different things. As we look forward, the growth in Chatham-Kent is tied to his leadership," said Canniff.

Tony Haddad, the former CAO for the Town of Tecumseh, will take over Tuesday on an interim basis until a permanent CAO is hired.
