Chatham-Kent councillor Brock McGregor has been acclaimed as the Ontario NDP candidate for Chatham-Kent-Leamington.
McGregor was the only one in the running and was given the nod at the party's nomination meeting Tuesday night.
He said it's time for change at Queens Park and believes NDP leader Andrea Horwath is the only party leader that can beat Premier Doug Ford.
McGregor said the riding for Chatham-Kent-Leamington and the province need strong leadership to start addressing some of the things that are broken across the province.
McGregor said affordability, high housing prices, and low vacancy rates are key local issues that he and the NDP will be working to address. McGregor said it's time for a government and an MPP that will put this riding first.
"I think anyone thinking about their own situation with regards to affordability or hoping that their kids or grandkids are going to be able to find housing and live a good life here, that really is top of mind," said McGregor. "The NDP has proven in opposition that they're a party that cares about working families, that cares about small businesses and is going to start working right away to make lives better in Ontario."
McGregor has served as councillor for almost eight years. He said he's focused on the provincial election on June 2, 2022 and hasn't decided if he'll stay as a councillor if he loses.
McGregor also applauds the NDP for promising universal mental health coverage if the party wins the June election. He said this will change lives.
