Man faces weapons charges after allegedly hiding shotgun in sweater

A 42-year-old Chatham man is facing weapon and theft charges after a weapons complaint turned up a shotgun and a stolen vehicle.

Chatham-Kent police responded to the complaint in Chatham on Saturday afternoon.

Police said the man arrived at an address in a car and was allegedly observed with what appeared to be a long gun wrapped in a sweater.

Officers located the man and found the weapon to be a shotgun.

Police said the man did not have a valid possession and acquisition licence for the firearm and was also on a criminal weapons prohibition.

He was charged with eight weapons offences.

The vehicle the suspect allegedly arrived in was reported stolen from Chatham while officers were investigating the weapons complaint.

The man was further charged with theft and possession of stolen property over $5,000.

He was held for bail.
