A rise in COVID-19 infections at the hospital in Chatham is prompting two new outbreaks to be declared.
Chatham-Kent Public Health reported the outbreaks at the Medicine B Unit and Complex Continuing Care Unit on Tuesday. The new outbreak brings the total number of patients with COVID-19 at the hospital to 29.
Of those hospitalized, only one patient is in intensive care.
Hospital officials said the health unit will be working closely with the hospital to manage the outbreak until it’s declared over.
"As part of CKHA’s pandemic response action plan and in alignment with the hospital’s infection prevention and control guidelines, a number of additional initiatives have been implemented in response to the outbreaks in the CCC Unit and Medicine B Unit," wrote Chatham-Kent Health Alliance (CKHA) in a statement. "CKHA will continue following these measures until CK Public Health rescinds the outbreak orders."
The CKHA is reminding the community that the hospital remains a safe place to receive care.
Health officials in Ontario reported 1,555 people in hospital with COVID-19, as well as 19 more deaths linked to the virus.
Of those hospitalized, 188 are in intensive care, with 78 requiring a ventilator to breathe.
