A man involved in a shooting in Chatham last year will be sentenced at the end of August.
Terry St. Hill, 21, found out on Tuesday that his sentencing hearing will be held, via Zoom, on August 31, 2022.
St. Hill, who was initially charged with attempted murder, pleaded guilty on May 17, 2022 to killing a dog during the shooting in Chatham on January 26, 2021. He has not yet entered a plea on other charges, including discharging a firearm with the intent to endanger life.
The Crown anticipates the August sentencing hearing will be for all of the charges. The formal reading of the agreed statement of facts of the case and witness impact statements are also expected to be read to the court at the August hearing.
Two other suspects in the shooting, 20-year-old Rylie Dejonge-Vandusen of London and 19-year-old Brianna Gardiner of Cambridge, will also be in court on August 31, 2022. It's anticipated they'll have their charges dropped.
St. Hill is one of five people accused of attempting to murder three men from Chatham on Harvey Street in Chatham in January of 2021.
St. Hill remains in custody at a maximum-security correctional facility in Penetanguishene while he waits for his sentencing hearing.
Another suspect, now 18, who can’t be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is still in custody. A different 18-year-old male from Cambridge, whose name is also protected by law because he was a minor at the time of the incident, has been out on bail for about 15 months.
Two of the male victims were wounded and were taken to the hospital for medical attention with non-life-threatening injuries. A third man was also shot at but was not wounded. A dog was shot and killed during the incident.
Police called it a targeted shooting.
There are publication bans in place preventing more information from being made public to protect the identity of the victims.
