The most recent COVID-19 outbreak at the hospital in Chatham is over.
The Chatham-Kent Health Alliance (CKHA) said the outbreak declared in the Medicine Unit on May 20, 2022 has been declared over by Chatham-Kent Public Health. The outbreak reached a total of 10 cases.
"CKHA would like to thank CK Public Health for their guidance and support during this outbreak, and the hospital’s staff and physicians for their continued commitment to providing safe, high-quality care under these difficult circumstances," said CKHA in a statement issued on Wednesday afternoon.
Hospital officials said infection prevention and control measures will remain in place across the organization and CKHA will continue to review and monitor the impact of the pandemic on its operations. CKHA also said its Essential Visitor and Care Partner Access policy remains in Phase 3 or “Green” restrictions, including the Medicine Unit.
Meanwhile, the local public health unit is reporting no new COVID-19 deaths over the last week and no new COVID-19 outbreaks. There are no reported COVID-19 outbreaks across the municipality for the first time in several months.
There were 50 new COVID-19 cases reported this past week. Public health officials also reported one active COVID-19 case in the hospital.
The COVID-19 death count in Chatham-Kent stands at 76.
