The Chatham-Kent Public Utilities Commission is implementing lawn watering restrictions for all customers, both residential and commercial, on municipal water.
The water restrictions came into effect on Friday.
Customers with odd-numbered addresses will be allowed to water their lawns on odd-numbered days. Meanwhile, customers with even-numbered addresses will be allowed to water their lawns on even-numbered days.
There will be a two-month month grace period for newly sodded lawns.
“With the extended hot dry weather that this region has been experiencing, lawn watering has placed extra demands on all of our water treatment plants” said General Manager Tim Sunderland. "This is the first step in the restrictions. CK PUC may need to implement further restrictions if the water plants do not see any relief."
In a tweet earlier this week, the Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority asked any residents using water from its local watercourses to voluntarily reduce water usage by 10 per cent, due to lower than average amounts of precipitation in the region over the past several months.
