A truck driver from Hamilton is facing Highway Traffic Act charges after a transport truck hit a train bridge near Komoka, halting VIA Rail service.
Around 5:22 a.m. Friday, Middlesex OPP were called to Amiens Road near Oriole Drive, where a northbound truck had hit the CN Railway bridge.
According to the OPP, engineers with CN Rail determined that the collision caused the bridge to shift.
“CN Rail officials immediately issued a stop train order as a safety precaution,” police said.
That forced VIA Rail, which uses the bridge, to stop service between London and Windsor.
Customer service with VIA said on Saturday morning service had been restored.
A 31-year-old from Hamilton is charged with careless driving and disobeying a sign.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
