Chatham man charged with impaired driving after crash

A 21-year-old Chatham man is facing an impaired driving charge after a crash between Chatham and Tilbury that sent him to the hospital.

Police said they were called to the scene of the single-vehicle crash on Queen's Line near Dillon Road at 10:20 p.m. Wednesday.

Officers said the vehicle went off the road and hit a tree before coming to a stop on the south side of the highway.

The driver, who was the only person inside the vehicle at the time, was taken to the hospital for medical attention.

Investigators spoke with the driver after he had received treatment for his injuries and believed he had been driving while under the influence of alcohol, so they carried out some breath tests and then arrested him.
