Not-for-profit groups who want to make an impact on the local community are invited to apply for funding through the United Way of Chatham-Kent.
The United Way of Chatham-Kent is now accepting applications for Community Impact Grants.
Groups that are interested in applying can participate in Step One of the application process by submitting a letter of intent by 10 p.m. on October 7.
United Way of Chatham-Kent CEO Barb Palace said the letter of intent should highlight how the proposed program or project will make a difference and impact in Chatham-Kent.
"It gives the base information around the organization, their charitable number and what the purpose of their proposed project or application is as well as how does it hit one or more of focus areas that were really trying to make an impact with," she explained.
According to Palace, the United Way of Chatham-Kent has several focus areas this year, which were formed based on feedback from the community.
The organization's focus areas for 2022-2023 include:
- Inclusion and representation – “coming together”
- Build strong communities across all of Chatham-Kent
- Address fundamental social issues including basic needs (food, housing, transportation); mental health and substance use supports; youth and senior programs
- Reconciliation lens and learning
- Action focus with the ability to effect system or culture change
All letters of intent will be independently reviewed by members of United Way of Chatham-Kent’s Community Impact Committee, made up of volunteers from across Chatham-Kent.
"[It'll review] which ones will provide what we feel would be a maximum impact," she said. "Those projects will be selected. Unfortunately, we never have enough revenue or donations to be able to cover all the needs in the region...So those organizations would be asked to provide a full proposal which would be a far more detailed document that would include more detailed budget issues, more detailed explanations of outcomes and how they'll be measured."
