If you're looking for a little help putting Thanksgiving dinner on the table this weekend, there are some options available to you across Chatham-Kent.
Entegrus is once again providing a Thanksgiving lunch on Friday to community members in need. The 10th Annual Thanksgiving meals will be distributed outside of the Spirit and Life Centre at 184 Wellington Street West in Chatham starting at 11 a.m. while quantities last.
"The last few years have been challenging for many non-profits that rely on volunteers for staffing. More than ever, we feel it’s important that we give back to our community," said Jim Hogan, President and CEO of Entegrus. "We are thankful to have the support of fellow local companies that share this notion, allowing us to offer a special meal to those in need this upcoming holiday."
Entegrus said there's a limit of one meal per person.
Meanwhile, Free Help CK is offering a free Thanksgiving dinner to seniors with no family who will be spending the holiday alone.
They can be referred by messaging Free Help CK on their Facebook page. Their name, address, the year they were born, and their phone number must be submitted by Friday morning.
The turkey dinner will be delivered for free on Thanksgiving Day and Free Help CK said it will contact the seniors to make sure they would like to receive the meal and ask if they have any allergies.
The goal is to provide 300 meals for that day.
The Chatham Outreach For Hunger food bank is also looking for donations ahead of the holiday and throughout the fall season.
Executive Director Brenda LeClair told CK News Today it is continuing with basic needs at this time although, the amounts previously given have been reduced.
"We have bins in all the grocery stores to receive donations as well as at the Outreach office," said LeClair. "We can also arrange for pick up."
The Outreach For Hunger office is at 10 Wellington Street W. in Chatham.
LeClair also said the Super Store is holding a food drive for the food bank on November 5, 2022 and there is a bowling event to raise funds for the food bank on October 29, 2022.
She added there is also a benefit concert December 23, 2022 at Caesars Windsor.
The Salvation Army also has food banks scattered throughout the municipality for those in need of food assistance. Identification (no health card or SIN card) and current income statement or stub are needed.
The Salvation Army also takes monetary donations as well as donations of food or toiletries.
