Health Canada has issued a recall for varieties of haircare products due to potential carcinogenic exposure.
The recall covers lots of Bed Head TIGI, Dove and Tresemmé Dry Shampoo products, that are sold in aerosol cans. According to the health agency, the recall is due to the possible detection of benzene.
"Benzene is classified as a human carcinogen," read the recall notice. "Exposure to benzene can occur by inhalation, orally, and through the skin and it can result in cancers including leukemia and blood cancer of the bone marrow and blood disorders which can be life-threatening."
The recall covers certain varieties of Bed Head Dirty Secret and Bee Hive shampoos, along with some kinds of Dove and Tresemmé shampoos. They were made in the U.S. and distributed in Canada by Unilever, and over 1.5-million units were sold between January 2020 and October 2022.
No complaints have been received about illness or injuries traced to the products.
If you have any of these products, stop using them immediately. Either discard them, return them to the store for a refund, or contact the company for reimbursement.
