The season has only just begun but Theatre Kent is getting ready to raise the curtain.
The community theatre company will hold open auditions for their upcoming production, Remember, Maggy? at 1 p.m. on Sunday, October 23 at St. Andrews Church in Chatham.
Remember, Maggy? is described as a powerful show that features four women dealing with aging, illness, family, and friends. The play is written by Carol and Matt Murray, a mother-son duo from Sarnia.
The play will be directed by Dan White.
"This is my fifth year in Chatham-Kent and third production with Theatre Kent, however, it is my first time directing," said White. “I have directed a lot of plays over the years but every time you go someplace new you get the different stories of the people about why they want to act and why they want to be involved. That's always fun."
Auditions are open to public. White said anyone is welcome to audition, whether they have experience or not.
"It's going to be fun to see who comes out and wants to take the risks of being on stage," said White.
The play follows two sisters and the journey of their complex relationship over the span of five years. Kate, a widowed housewife and Maggy, an actress, battle to stay connected while dealing with the progression of their sharp-tongued Irish mother having Alzheimer's.
The play will be Theatre Kent's Western Ontario Drama League out-of-festival entry this year.
"We will have an adjudicator who comes in and looks at the play," said White. "The adjudicator will give us their opinion on the acting, lighting, sound, makeup, costumes, and the set. It's a really good experience to be involved in for the company."
