Thieves cut copper pipes out of Chatham home, leaving $40K in damage

Chatham-Kent police are investigating after someone broke into a home that is being renovated on Sandys Street in Chatham and stripped it of some copper wires and pipes.

Police said the theft also caused a costly, wet mess.

Officers said they were called to the scene Wednesday evening, adding that whoever broke into the home stripped it of copper wire and took off with "numerous tools."

Police said the suspects also cut the copper pipes to the hot water tank, which caused flooding in the home.

The damage was estimated at $40,000.

Police recover stolen pickup truck, Jeep

Chatham-Kent police are still looking for tips after they recovered a pickup truck and a Jeep that were both reported stolen.

Police said a grey 2001 Ford F-150 had been reported stolen from a business on Byng Avenue in Chatham on October 24, 2022, adding that no one was inside the vehicle when they found it at an address on Grand Avenue East Wednesday morning.

In the second case, police recovered a 2003 Jeep Sahara in London after it was reported stolen from a driveway on Zone Centre Line at around 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Police said the vehicle's ignition was punched when it was found.

Police investigating motorcycle theft

Chatham-Kent police are looking for a motorcycle that was reported stolen Wednesday afternoon.

Police said someone stole a red Honda Enduro motorcycle with license plate 3N6F9 from a driveway at an address on Joseph Street in Chatham.

Officers said they were notified of that theft at around 4 p.m. Thursday.

Woman wanted for DNA sample spotted in Wallaceburg

Chatham-Kent police have caught up with a 29-year-old Wallaceburg woman who needed to provide a DNA sample.

Officers said an officer on general patrol saw the woman walking on James Street just before 3 p.m. Wednesday and arrested her.

The DNA sample was collected and she was later released from custody.
