Maroons' Breast Cancer Awareness Night brings in over $3,000

The Chatham Maroons organization is continuing its commitment to breast cancer awareness.

The Maroons hosted its annual Breast Cancer Awareness Night on Sunday. Maroons Vice President Karen Szekesy called it a huge success.

“The just over $3,000 raised from the auction will be shared by The Breast Buddies and by the Canadian Cancer Society,” explained Szekesy.

Auction items included the special ‘pink’ game-worn jerseys, Sarnia Sting tickets and an autographed hockey stick.

Members of The Breast Buddies, a group of breast cancer survivors who have taken up dragon boat racing, were also in attendance for a special pre-game ceremony. The group has made it their mission to promote awareness of quality of life after a diagnosis of breast cancer.

Since 2013, the Maroons' Breast Cancer Awareness Night has raised over $23,000.
