Santa Claus coming to Tilbury ahead of light festival

A week after he pulled through Chatham and Wallaceburg, Jolly Old St. Nick will be riding his sleigh through downtown Tilbury.

The Tilbury Santa Claus parade starts at 7 p.m. Friday from the Fire Hall in Tilbury and will move south on Queen Street to Memorial Park.

There will also be a chance to visit Santa at his Christmas cabin in the Lawn Bowling building and there will be some live music and free bowls of chili and timbits available.

Santa's visit to Memorial Park will also kick off the 4th Annual Tilbury Lions Christmas Light Festival.

That will run from November 25, 2022 to January 6, 2023 at the park, featuring more than 50,000 lights that will turn on every night from 5:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. with the exception of the first night, when they'll start up following the Santa Claus Parade.

This year's light festival will also include a new feature with the "Tilbury Lions Holiday Hayrides" running from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for the first three Saturdays of December.

The hayrides will start at the Stewart Street entrance to Memorial Park and will drive around a few subdivisions to take in the town lights before finishing back at the park. There is no cost for the ride, but passengers are asked to bring a non-perishable food donation for the Tilbury Goodfellows.

There will also be a "School Night Event" on Saturday December 3 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Four Tilbury schools will be selling goodies at Memorial Park during that event to fundraise for their school.

You can find more information about the Christmas events taking place at Memorial Park on the Tilbury Lions Christmas Light Festival Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/tilburylionschristmaslightfestival
