Woman charged with arson after dumpster fire

A 25-year-old Chatham-Kent woman is charged with arson after police were called to a dumpster fire on Wallace Street in Wallaceburg.

Chatham-Kent police said emergency crews responded to the scene at 10:38 p.m. Sunday, adding that their investigation showed the woman had intentionally set the dumpster on fire.

She was arrested, charged, and taken to police headquarters pending a bail hearing.

Wanted man arrested after police investigate suspicious activity

A 21-year-old Chatham man who was wanted for theft and fraud has been caught by police after he was caught on camera in Chatham.

Police said their investigation started just after 9:30 a.m. Sunday when they were called to Victoria Avenue for a report of some suspicious activity.

Officers said two men were captured on video surveillance walking around a building on the property even though they had no authority to be there.

While police were following up on the tip, they found two men on Elizabeth Avenue and arrested one of them in connection with a theft and fraud investigation that was reported on December 4.

He was later released with a future court date.

Wanted St. Thomas man arrested in Chatham

A 32-year-old man from St. Thomas who was wanted for breaching his bail conditions is back in police custody.

Chatham-Kent police said they arrested the man just before 1:30 p.m. Sunday after officers found him on Murray Street.

Police said he was taken back to police headquarters and was set to be held there pending a bail hearing.

Walpole Island man arrested on warrant

A 37-year-old Walpole Island man who allegedly skipped his court date has another date with a judge now.

Police said they arrested him at around 4:30 a.m. Monday while they were responding to a tip about some suspicious activity in the parking lot of the municipal building on Dufferin Avenue in Wallaceburg.

The man was taken back to police headquarters and was set to be held there pending a bail hearing.
