CK cop faces termination or demotion next month

A Chatham-Kent cop fighting to save his job will know shortly after the new year if he gets demoted or dismissed.

Constable Andrew Jaconelli pleaded guilty to seven counts of discreditable conduct last year stemming from a sexual assault at a Christmas party in 2017 and Chatham-Kent police want to dismiss him.

The prosecution is recommending dismissal, arguing that Jaconelli's return to work will have long term effects on his co-workers.

The defence wants a demotion, arguing that Jaconelli suffers from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder after watching a man set himself on fire July 1, 2017 and is alcoholic, which is a disability.

CK News Today has learned that Jaconelli's fate will be known January 20, 2023 when a decision is expected to be made public.

Jaconelli is also facing criminal harassment charges that are still before the court and haven’t been proven.
