Concerns about impending ice storm prompt school buses cancellations

You will see salt trucks, but no big yellow buses on the road in Chatham-Kent Wednesday morning.

School buses have been cancelled for all zones because of the freezing rain that is expected to hit the region Wednesday afternoon.

Environment Canada issued a freezing rain warning Tuesday evening, calling for between five to ten millimetres by the time it is done falling.

The worst of the storm is expected to start with ice pellets late Wednesday morning, then changing over to freezing rain early in the afternoon.

All St. Clair Catholic schools will still be open for the day. Officials at the SCCDSB said their schools will also be available through their learning management systems to provide asynchronous learning for any students who are unable to attend school and who wish to participate.

All elementary schools in the Lambton Kent District School Board are open to students, but all LKDSB secondary schools will be closed to students for in-person learning.
