The court proceedings for the Kyle Samko murder trial didn't go as long as expected for the jury on Tuesday.
The trial ended on a short note by Superior Court Judge Brian Dube so that he could prepare his charge to the jury and for the Crown and defence to prepare their closing statements.
On Tuesday, the judge told the jury to decide on a verdict based on the testimony seen and heard during the trial, along with any instructions received by him.
He told jurors not to research the law with respect to second-degree murder or self-defence, calling anything they might find “totally irrelevant” to their deliberations.
The Jury was also reminded to not seek any information about the trial from outside sources such as the media, social media, or the internet.
When it comes to the verdict, Dube told the jury punishment had no place in their decision, adding that it is his decision to make.
Kyle Samko, 28, is charged with second-degree murder in the death of Manny da Silva, 35, in June of 2021 outside a house on St. George Street near Park Avenue in Chatham.
