Flood warning issued for Thames River watershed in Chatham-Kent

A flood warning is now in place for areas along the Thames River in Chatham-Kent.

The water levels are expected to peak in Thamesville during the day Tuesday and Chatham should see the peak Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning.

Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority (LTVCA) officials said the rain in the forecast over the next couple of days could keep the water levels high for several more days, too.

The LTVCA is operating the 6th Street Dam in downtown Chatham to prevent flooding in the south end of the city but flooding is expected later today in basements of the businesses along King Street that back onto the river in downtown Chatham

The situation appears to be a bit better along the Sydenham River in the Wallaceburg area.

The St. Clair Region Conservation Authority (SCRCA) said water levels are still up quite high there and there is some flooding on roads closer to Wilkesport but the water levels appear to be past their peak.

The SCRCA will be keeping a close eye on things with more rain in the forecast, though.
