At around 8:17 a.m. Wednesday, an Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer on patrol on Communication Road was alerted about a vehicle in their vicinity that had been reported stolen. OPP officials say the officer received a notification from the Automated Licence Plate Recognition (ALPR) system.
Police say the driver attempted to flee from the officer however, the suspect wound up crashing the vehicle into a residential fence near Silvana Drive. The man quickly got out of the vehicle after the crash and tried to make a run for it.
After a brief pursuit on foot, the accused was taken into custody.
As a result, a 34-year-old Chatham man is charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, possession of methamphetamine, five counts of operation while prohibited and two counts of driving while suspended.
