A 27-year-old man is facing a handful of charges, including impaired driving, after he allegedly crashed a stolen vehicle on the Highway 401 in Chatham-Kent Tuesday afternoon.
Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) said they were first tipped off about the vehicle just after 4:30 p.m. Tuesday when they received multiple complaints about a driver who was heading east on the Hwy. 401 through Chatham-Kent.
OPP said shortly after they received the initial complaint, officers got an update that the vehicle had gone off the road and crashed near the Mull Road overpass.
When officers arrived, they believed the driver was impaired, so they took him into custody. At that time, police also learned that the vehicle involved in the collision had previously been reported stolen.
A 27-year-old man of no fixed address was charged with impaired driving (alcohol and drugs), possession of stolen property, mischief, driving without a license, and driving with an open container of liquor in the vehicle.
The driver was assessed at the scene for non-life threatening injuries and was hit with a 90-day driver's license suspension.
He is scheduled to appear in court on May 8 to answer to the charges.
