OPP nab impaired driver after crash on Hwy. 40
A 24-year-old Wallaceburg resident is facing an impaired driving charge after provincial police responded to a single-vehicle crash on St. Clair Road (Hwy. 40) early Saturday morning.
Elgin County OPP with the Chatham Detachment said they were called to the scene just before 4 a.m. Saturday, adding that the driver of the vehicle that crashed allegedly failed a roadside test and was taken into custody for further testing.
The driver was later charged with impaired driving (80 plus) and being a novice driver with a blood alcohol content above zero. He is scheduled to appear in court in May to answer to the charges.
Police said no injuries were reported.
The driver's license was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was set to be impounded for seven days.

Man arrested for breaking into unit in Chatham
A 66-year-old Chatham man is charged with breaking and entering after he allegedly forced open a door to a unit on Michener Road in Chatham.
Chatham-Kent police said they were called to the scene just after 5 p.m. Sunday and learned that when the door was forced open, it also caused some damage to a wall.
The accused was charged with breaking and entering and he was taken to police headquarters before he was later released with conditions and a future court date.

Woman accused of shoving two people, breaking release conditions
A 23-year-old Chatham woman who has had previous run-ins with the law is facing more charges after she allegedly assaulted to people in Chatham Sunday evening.
Police said they got involved after they were called to an address on Sheldon Avenue in Chatham for a disturbance shortly after 7 p.m. Sunday.
Officers said when they arrived, they learned that the woman was allegedly messaging a specific woman she had been ordered not to communicate with and had shown up at the specific woman's home on Sheldon Avenue even though she had been banned from attending any place that woman was known to be.
When the accused was at the woman's home, she was also allegedly banging on the windows, prompting a man who was inside at the time to come out to speak with her.
Police said a bystander also saw the confrontation and asked the man and the woman to take their argument somewhere else.
The woman then allegedly shoved both the bystander and the man who she was arguing with.
As a result, the 23-year-old Chatham woman was charged with two counts of assault and one count of failing to comply with a release order.
She was taken to police headquarters and was later released with conditions and a future court date.

Weekend argument takes a violent turn
A 64-year-old Chatham woman has been charged with assault with a weapon after she allegedly threw an item at a man during an argument over the weekend.
Police said they were called in to investigate the incident just after 11:30 p.m. Sunday night on Galbraith Street in Chatham, even though the alleged assault was during a dispute on Saturday.
The woman was charged with assault with a weapon and she was taken to police headquarters before she was later released with conditions and a future court date.
