Police called after youth seen brandishing weapon

Officers responded to the Downtown Chatham Centre after two youths were spotted on the top level of the parking garage, with one possibly waving a gun around.

Upon arrival, police located the two suspects exiting the main level and placed them under arrest. Officers discovered one of the youths had a BB gun stowed in their backpack.

The pair were released to their parents with no charges, but did get a stern warning from Chatham-Kent police.

Items stolen from downtown residence

Police are investigation a break-and-enter at a home on Buckingham Avenue.

Personal items and a quantity of liquor were stolen from the address.

Woman facing impaired charge after driving complaint

Chatham-Kent police were called by the Windsor Police Service and Ontario Provincial Police to locate a possible impaired driver. The tip reportedly came from concerned citizens.

The registered vehicle owner was found to reside in the Merlin Area and was discovered by police nearby on Port Road. The woman was placed under arrest and taken to Chatham-Kent police headquarters for further processing.

Police say the woman was over twice the legal limit at the time of her arrest. She was charged with operation while impaired 80 plus. The accused was released with a court date set for May 28.
