Woman arrested after outburst on Mother's Day

A 30-year-old woman is facing charges after she allegedly damaged some hanging baskets and assaulted an employee with a sign holder during a disturbance at Walmart in Wallaceburg.

Chatham-Kent police said they were called to the scene Sunday morning and learned that the woman had allegedly damaged three hanging flower baskets that were on display at the store while she was being asked to leave and was being escorted out by employees there.

Police said the woman allegedly went back to the store a short time later and was seen trying to hide some items from the make-up section in her bag.

When she was asked to leave the store a second time, the woman allegedly got upset, grabbed a sign holder, and hit an employee with it while threatening the employee as well.

Officers said they found the woman a short distance away from the store and took her into custody.

She was allegedly yelling obscenities at the officer while she was being arrested and then also allegedly spit all over the back of the cruiser while she was being taken back to police headquarters.

A 30-year-old woman of no fixed address was charged with assault with a weapon, uttering threats, and two counts of mischief. She was later released pending a future court date.
