Survivor Challenge raises $38K for Blenheim Youth Centre

The totals are in after this past weekend's 24-hour Survivor Challenge in support of the Blenheim Youth Centre.

The two-day event at Memorial Park in Blenheim raised more than $38-thousand-dollars for the centre.

Sixteen contestants entered the competition in eight teams of two.

“The Survivor Challenge plays a key role in helping to fund important programming that supports the more than 1,100 registered members of the BYC”, said Executive Director Emily Robert. “Not being able to host this event the past few years made it extremely challenging for us as an organization that relies heavily on fundraising to operate the Centre, so we were really excited to bring it back.”

Dave Bonnell and his daughter Jamie came out on top and took home the top fundraising prize, bringing in $8,855 in sponsorships and pledges.

Bonnel is a previous winner from 2013 and has now competed in the challenge with all four of his daughters.

“This event is really one of the best ways to bring the entire community together to support a critical resource for youth in Blenheim,” said BYC Board of Directors Vice President BJ Griffiths. “Our local business community has really stepped up this year as we have the most sponsors we’ve ever had for this event.”

The event also featured activities for kids, food booths, and live music.

All proceeds from this year’s event will support new and continued programming for youth in Blenheim.
