Cooling centres open in Chatham

Several daytime cooling centres are opening their doors in Chatham on Tuesday for anyone who is looking to beat the heat.

A heat warning from Environment Canada remains in effect.

Those at the highest risk of heat-related illness include older adults, infants and children, those with chronic illnesses, those with physical impairments, and people taking medications that affect heat sensitivity.

Municipal offices and public libraries across Chatham-Kent are acting as cooling stations, providing a place to visit, cool off, and have some water.

Hope Haven on Wellington Street West in Chatham is also available to those in need.

Anyone experiencing homelessness and in need of further assistance, including transportation to cool locations, can call the Homeless Response Line at 519-354-6628 (24/7.)
