Restricted weapon, meth seized after 401 crash east of London

A single-vehicle crash on Highway 401 east of London led provincial police to a restricted weapon and a quantity of illicit drugs.

A vehicle travelling in the eastbound lanes in Thames Centre collided with debris that was laying on the highway around 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Emergency vehicles were called to the scene.

While investigating, Middlesex OPP seized a restricted weapon and methamphetamine from the vehicle. Police did not specify the exact type of weapon involved.

A 33-year-old Wallaceburg man and a 39-year-old Stratford man were arrested and charged with one count each of possession of drugs.

The 33-year-old faces an additional charge of occupying a vehicle knowing there was a prohibited or restricted weapon. The 39-year-old was also charged with identity fraud and possession of an identity document.

Both men have been released from police custody with future court dates.
