Wanted Tilbury man allegedly assaults police during arrest

A 43-year-old Tilbury man is charged with assaulting a police officer after an early morning altercation on Grand Avenue East in Chatham.

Chatham-Kent police said they were carrying out a property check just before 2:30 a.m Monday when they found the man and confirmed that he was wanted by police for skipping court on a weapons charge.

When police tried to arrest the man, he allegedly "became confrontational and assaultive" towards the officers, who then used a taser on the man before taking him into custody.

The man was taken back to police headquarters and was set to be held there pending a bail hearing.

Police arrest intoxicated man who rang 911 a dozen times

A 44-year-old Erieau man is finding out the hard way that drinking and dialing don't mix well.

CK police said they showed up at an address on Nichols Avenue in Erieau at around 9:30 p.m. Sunday for a well-being check after receiving a dozen 911 calls from the residence.

Police said when they arrived, they found a man who was highly intoxicated and warned him against misusing the 911 service.

After they left, he allegedly kept dialing 911, though, so police came back and arrested him.

He was charged with mischief and was held in custody until he sobered up.

The man was later released with conditions and a future court date.
