Woman accused of taking stolen games to a pawn shop

A 47-year-old Chatham-Kent woman is facing charges after some stolen games ended up at a pawn shop.

Chatham-Kent police said their investigation started shortly after 11 a.m. Thursday when they learned that a gaming station and some games had been stolen from someone's home and subsequently pawned at a local pawn shop.

Police said the victim was able to give them the name of a suspect in the case and when officers followed up on that tip, they were able to identify the suspect as the same person who pawned the stolen items.

Officers were also able to track down the stolen items and returned them to the victim.

The woman who was identified as a suspect in the case was arrested and charged with theft and possession of stolen property.

She was taken to police headquarters and was later released with a future court date.

Tip about stolen bike leads police to wanted man with drugs under a bridge

A man who was wanted by Chatham-Kent police for skipping court turned up just a few metres away from police headquarters.

Police said they found the man under the Third Street Bridge in Chatham while they were following up on a tip shortly before noon on Thursday about a stolen bicycle that had been posted on Facebook.

Officers said the bicycle was allegedly spotted under the Third Street Bridge, adding that when officers were checking out that lead, they found a man who was wanted for failing to attend court in connection with a wire theft in May 2022.

Police said they also found some suspected methamphetamine on the man when they searched him.

He was charged with drug possession for the purpose of trafficking and was taken to police headquarters before he was released with conditions and a future court date.

Chatham woman arrested after assault

A 23-year-old Chatham woman is facing a handful of charges after she allegedly assaulted someone she was supposed to be staying away from.

Police said they were called to a residence in Chatham shortly before 11:30 p.m. Thursday and learned that a woman had driven to that address before getting out of the vehicle and physically attacking someone.

Officers said the woman accused of assault left the scene before they arrived, but police were able to identify her and tracked her down to her residence.

When police found the woman, they believed she had been drinking alcohol -- even though she was under a court order not to.

Police said the woman had also been ordered by the court to stop communicating with the victim and to stay at least 100 metres away from the specific address where the alleged assault took place.

Officers arrested the woman and charged her with three counts of failing to comply with a release order and one count of assault causing bodily harm.

She was taken to police headquarters and was set to be held there pending a bail hearing.
