Heavy rain in the forecast has prompted a flood watch from the Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority (LTVCA).
The LTVCA has issued the watch for smaller watercourses, after the Environment Canada forecast Wednesday evening called for the potential of 50 millimetres of rain in some areas.
"The Windsor/Essex message notes that over 50 millimetres has already fallen in the Lakeshore and Tilbury area, and radar suggests that areas in Middlesex and Elgin within the LTVCA have also already received over 50 millimetres," read the notice from the LTVCA. "Radar shows that thunderstorms are still passing through the Middlesex and Elgin areas of the LTVCA and significantly more rainfall could be seen."
The authority has reported pooling and localized flooding in some low-lying areas, and some watercourses have already approached bank-full status. Significant additional rain may push water over the banks.
As of 7 p.m. Wednesday, the LTVCA reported that water levels on the Thames River have not been impacted.
The flood watch is in effect through Friday.
