Man accused of tapping woman on head while holding machete

A 47-year-old Wallaceburg man who was banned from having weapons is facing charges after he pulled out a machete during a domestic argument.

Chatham-Kent police said they arrested the man after they were called to investigate a domestic disturbance in Wallaceburg at around 8 a.m. Sunday.

Investigators said they learned the man had allegedly gone to the woman's home to retrieve some personal items when they got into an argument.

Officers said that escalated into a physical fight, at which point, the man reportedly pulled out a machete and started tapping the woman on the head.

Police said the woman was able to escape to a safe place and that officers found the man in the backyard of the property.

He was arrested and officers later learned that he had previously been released from court with a ban on possessing weapons.

A 47-year-old Wallaceburg man was charged with assault with a weapon and failing to comply with a release order and he was later taken to police headquarters where he was set to be held pending a bail hearing.

Chatham woman wanted for skipping court arrested

A 32-year-old Chatham woman who was wanted for missing a scheduled court date has been arrested.

Police said officers on general patrol saw the woman on Wellington Street West in Chatham at around 8:30 p.m. Sunday and were able to confirm that she was wanted on an outstanding warrant.

She was taken into custody and then later released with a future court date.

Chatham-Kent police are trying to track down two suspects wanted in connection with a theft investigation.

Police said the two individuals attended the Shopper's Drug Mart on Grand Avenue West in Chatham on September 10 and removed items from the shelves.

The suspects allegedly concealed the items before leaving the store without paying for them.
