House torn down after Friday night fire in Wallaceburg

The cause is going down as undetermined after late-night fire at an abandoned house in Wallaceburg.

Chatham-Kent fire crews were called to the scene at around 11:20 p.m. Friday and firefighters could already see flames coming out of the first-floor windows and doors by the time they arrived.

Firefighters tried to knock down the flames, but they weren't able to stop it before the fire spread into the attic.

Fire officials said the crews worked through the night on what was described as a "difficult, deep-seated fire."

The property owner confirmed with fire crews that the home was abandoned and an excavator was brought in Saturday morning to tear down what was left of the home.

There were no injuries reported and no damage estimate was released.
