Pedestrian calls police about man with suspected firearm

A 41-year-old Chatham man is facing a weapons charge after someone called him in for carrying around what appeared to be a gun.

Chatham-Kent police said that was in the area of Wellington Street in Chatham at around 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Officers said they responded quickly to the area after getting the tip and arrested someone in connection with the case.

A 41-year-old Chatham man was charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

Police said there was no immediate threat to public safety and that the situation was resolved without incident. They also noted that there are no ongoing public safety concerns in connection with the call.

Wallaceburg man arrested for violating release conditions

A 27-year-old Wallaceburg man is facing charges after he allegedly spent some time with someone he had been ordered to stay away from.

Chatham-Kent police said the man was released from custody twice earlier this year with the same condition, banning him from any contact with a specific person.

Officers said despite those orders, police found him with that same person on Tuesday.

As a result, the man was arrested and charged with two counts of failing to comply and was taken to police headquarters where he was set to be held pending a bail hearing.

Chatham man arrested for skipping court

A 19-year-old Chatham man is finding out the hard way that you don't want to stand up a judge.

CK police said they found the man while they were responding to a disturbance call at around 11 p.m. Tuesday in the area of Thames Street and King Street in Chatham.

Officers said they confirmed that he was wanted for failing to attend court, so he was arrested.

The accused was later released with a future court date.
