Chatham teen charged with assault after youth chased down, stomped on

A 16-year-old Chatham girl is charged with assault after a local youth was chased by a group of students and then beaten up multiple times.

Chatham-Kent police said they were contacted on Monday, October 23 regarding an assault in the area of Cecile Street in Chatham.

Police said they were told a youth had been chased down by a group of students who then knocked the youth to the ground while "punching and kicking them repeatedly."

Officers said the group continued to chase the victim and kept punching, kicking, and stomping on them.

Police arrested a 16-year-old Chatham youth on Tuesday in connection with the case and charged her with one count of assault causing bodily harm.

She was later released with conditions and a future court date.

Police report finding fentanyl on man banned from driving

A traffic stop in Chatham-Kent Tuesday morning led to a drug trafficking charge.

CK police said they stopped a vehicle at around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday after they saw a driver who was known to be banned from driving.

He was initially arrested for driving while prohibited, but when police searched him, they also allegedly found a clear plastic baggie with about one ounce of suspected fentanyl inside.

A 31-year-old Chatham man was charged with two counts of driving while prohibited, two counts of driving under suspension, and one count of drug possession for the purpose of trafficking.

He was taken to police headquarters and was set to be held there pending a bail hearing.
