Tampon Tuesday donation drive a success

Period products have been handed out to 25 agencies across Chatham-Kent thanks to Tampon Tuesday.

On Tuesday, October 17, volunteers from Women United Chatham-Kent teamed up with Teksavvy and Enbridge for a one-day drive-through donation event at 425 McNaughton Avenue West in Chatham.

A total of 1,650 period and hygiene items were collected, worth $14,850. That's down from 2022 when they collected around 2,000 items.

But organizers also collected $1,419 in cash from walk-up donations.

Period products are the most requested but the least donated items at food banks, and many people are forced to choose each month between food or menstrual hygiene products.
