The Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority (LTVCA) has reduced the local flood warning to a flood watch, after Thames River water levels peaked.
The Conservation Authority says water levels should be expected to remain high for the next few days, especially through Chatham-Kent, and that the watch will be in place until February 1.
LTVCA notes that the Thames River continues to flood low-lying areas and the McGregor Creek Diversion Channel at Chatham will remain in operation until the river drops low enough. The 6th St. Backwater Dam and Pumping Station in Chatham is expected to be reopened early this evening.
The ice on the Thames River has now flushed out into Lake St. Clair and no longer presents an ice jam risk.
Residents are advised to take extra caution and avoid the river, ditches, and streams.
Officials will continue to monitor the situation and update this advisory as necessary.
